What is SRMP all about?

SRMP is a free summer program about reading, doing math, earning raffle tickets, and collecting gems at Freeport Community Library!

There are several ways to participate; as an Independent Reader, Teen Reader, and by doing Bedtime Math. SRMP is open to grades 12 and under who are Freeport residents, students of Freeport schools, or FCL cardholders.

Kids can participate in reading, math, or both to earn raffle tickets for any prize and to collect gems. The prizes are combined for Independent Readers and Bedtime Math. Teen Readers have their own unique reading prizes to choose from and can also participate in Bedtime Math.

Kids who don’t read on their own can participate as Family Readers. Even though they can’t submit raffle tickets, families get their own reading log. For every reading log they fill, they get a special sticker. They also can participate in Bedtime Math and submit raffle tickets for that.

When can I start? When does SRMP end?

Start tracking your reading and math June 1, then submit raffle tickets June 12 at 10:00am through August 3 at 5:00pm. Raffle winners will be called the on August 4. Prizes must be picked up by September 1, 2023 at 5:00 pm

No official sign-up is required, just start tracking and submitting online and come with your reading log to get gems and a free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream coupon at the YS desk.

Want to get free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Sea Dogs tickets?

The first 300 participants to visit the library with their Bedtime Math sheet or reading log get a free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream coupon! Teens can check in with staff to get theirs. Every SRMP participant can also get free Sea Dogs baseball tickets as well! Look soon for a link here on our website to claim yours.

Who can earn raffle tickets?

Independent Readers

  • Who can participate? Any age child who reads independently up to outgoing 8th graders.
  • Audiobooks, magazines, read-alouds, and comic books count!
  • You can only count a book once, even if you reread it multiple times this summer and you must finish the book before you enter it.
  • For every chapter book read, earn 1 raffle ticket. (What counts as a chapter book? It has a table of contents.)
  • For every 3 non-chapter books read, earn 1 raffle ticket.

Teen Readers

  • Who can participate? Incoming 6th graders through
outgoing 12th graders. (All teens have the choice between the Independent Reader and the Teen Reader programs.)
  • For every book read, earn 1 raffle ticket.
  • Audiobooks, magazines, read-alouds, and comic books count!
  • You can only count a book ONCE, even if you reread it multiple times this summer and you must finish the book before you enter it.

Bedtime Math

  • Who can participate? Any age child through outgoing 12th graders. There are problems for all ages.
  • For every 3 math problems attempted at bedtimemath.org, earn 1 raffle ticket.
  • Remember, the answer does NOT need to be correct for it to count; you just have to try.

How do I earn gems?

If you’re an Independent Reader who would like to collect gems, use the reading log to write down read books and come by the Youth Services desk at the library. Earn 1 gem for every chapter book (has a table of contents) read, and 1 gem for every 3 non-chapter books read.

How do I submit raffle tickets?

Online

Submit tickets using Google Forms. Follow the icons at the top of the page, or use the quick links in the Kids dropdown menu.

Independent Readers who also participate in Bedtime Math can submit their tickets on one form. Teens who would like to participate in both Teen Readers and Math will have to fill out separate forms to submit each.

In-Person

  1. Bring your reading log to the staff at the Youth Services desk. Show them how many books you read.
  2. The staff can show you how to submit your raffle tickets, or they can do it for you.

Need help filling out a Google form?

Stop by the Youth Services desk at the library to learn how, or give us a call at 207-865-3307.
